Company History
Rocky Mountain Slinger opened for business in July 2005 with father, Dick Dorling, and son, Will Dorling. Will Dorling drove the Tandem Slinger Truck and Dick Dorling raked. It was a long hot summer and the Alberta boom in residential housing construction was at its peak; such activity had not been seen before in Calgary.
Helpers were impossible to find locally and workers came from as far away as Newfoundland, Mexico, and later Ontario.
Every factory, gas station and restaurant had "help wanted" bill boards displayed.
This frenzy was driven by oil or the shortage of it. At Fort McMurray an enormous reserve was lying in the black sands. Here was the focus of the massive influx of people into Alberta.
In 2008 the pace has slowed due partly to the US credit market turmoil. Although oil is at record highs over $100/barrel there is a nervousness in the housing industry with buyers concerns of the immediate future.
Rocky Mountain Slinger decided at this time that it would be appropriate to complete our supply to include concrete. We thus made the decision to invest in two mixer trucks.
Will's older brother Matthew has joined the company and there are now seven other employees.
Rocky Mountain Slinger is proud to support local charity events.
